Daily for 150 years, Edinburgh's One O'Clock Gun has startled shoppers and tourists every day.

And yesterday another great Edinburgh tradition was used to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the famous gun which fires at the Scottish city's castle.

Brian McKenzie, accompanied by his dog, Blue, laid a wreath in Edinburgh at the grave of Greyfriars Bobby, seen at the rear.

Legend has it that Greyfriars Bobby, a Sky Terrier, kept a vigil over his master's grave following his death for 14 years, sitting loyally in Greyfriars cemetery and attracting the attention of people from across the city.

He is said to have come out for his dinner every day at 1pm at the sound of the gun.

The legend is commemorated by a statue in the city.
