Guided walks through woods offered

YORK Council is supporting the Tree Council's Walk in the Woods initiative this month with a series of guided woodland walks.

Walk in the Woods is a month-long scheme, aimed at encouraging people to enjoy their local woodland in it spring glory.

The first wildlife walk will be held on Tuesday from 6.30pm- 8pm at Clifton Backies Local Nature Reserve.

The evening walk will give people the chance to learn more about the biodiversity of the site. Anyone wanting to take part should meet at the Water Lane car park, off Woodland Chase.

The second walk will be held on Tuesday, May 25, from 6.30pm-7.30pm at Acomb Wood Local Nature Reserve. The woodland dates back hundreds of years whilst the adjacent meadow is even older and is home to many wildflowers and grasses.

Those wanting to take part should meet at the car park on Acomb Wood drive behind the Quaker Wood pub.

The walks are free and open to everyone, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Booking is essential for both walks.
