Guide's top prize for yorkshire pub

A North Yorkshire pub has been named as the Good Pub Guide's pub of the year for 2011.

The Tempest Arms at Elslack, Skipton, was praised for its food and drink, atmosphere and bedrooms. The book said: “Always deservedly busy, this 18th century stone inn is stylish but understated with plenty of pubby character.”

This year the guide said it had excluded 381 establishments, with four in 10 disappointed customers reporting poor service – up from three in 10 last year.

Staff shortages and surly publicans or employees were among complaints.
