Harry backs injured troops on first return to US since his strip

Prince Harry is to return to America for the first time since he was photographed naked during a break in Las Vegas.

Harry will travel to the US in May to champion the rehabilitation of US and UK troops, support British interests and promote his own charities, St James’s Palace announced.

The Prince committed the high-profile gaffe last summer, before his deployment to Afghanistan, when he was photographed nude during a “strip billiards” party in a £5,000-a-night hotel.

When Harry returned in January from his military tour co-piloting helicopters he admitted he had “let himself and his family down”.

During his tour of the US Harry will watch the opening ceremony of the Warrior Games, a Paralympic-style competition for injured servicemen and women, and attend some events. Britain is entering a team for the first time at the event being staged in Colorado Springs.

The prince’s tour will also take him to Washington, Denver and New York in May.

Survivors of Hurricane Sandy will welcome him to New Jersey and he will also stage his fundraising Sentebale Polo Cup match, in Connecticut, in aid of his African-based charity.

Earlier this month, Harry became patron of anti-landmine charity the Halo Trust’s 25th anniversary appeal and in Washington he will visit an exhibition about the clearance of ordnance from parts of the world.

In New York the Prince will support the Great Campaign, a Government initiative which promotes the UK on the back of the success of the Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 Olympics.
