‘Have your say’ call on hotel plans

Residents are invited to view and comment on new proposals by Gregory Projects Ltd after its original scheme was rejected by Harrogate Borough Council.

The Leeds-based developer wants to transform the derelict Tower Street building into a five-storey, 77-bedroom hotel including a restaurant and gym. The budget hotel chain has committed to a 25-year lease.

A planning application submitted in January was refused due to concerns about the development’s impact on the character of the conservation area and inadequate servicing.

Richard Tovey, of Gregory Projects, said the project team had been working hard on the design to address comments raised by residents and the council.

“The Harrogate community will see the benefit of these additional facilities through extra leisure and business trade generated from the strength of Travelodge’s brand and, in doing so, will reduce the danger of revenue leaking to other towns and cities in the region, notably Leeds,” he added.

The plans will go on show on Tuesday from 1pm to 7pm at the Tap and Spile pub, Tower Street.

Feedback from the public consultation will be independently recorded and considered as part of the planning application.
