In Scunthorpe two teenagers were killed and another was fighting for his life in hospital last night following a head-on crash involving a car and a lorry.

Rescue crews from the Corus steelworks joined emergency services to help following the crash, on a private road leading through the plant. It is open for public access.

A boy and girl, both 16, were passengers in a blue Honda Civic which hit a DAF lorry on Dawes Lanes. Another boy, also 16 and a passenger in the car, was flown by air ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary with life-threatening injuries.

The lorry driver, 30, was in hospital with serious injuries and the Honda driver, 18, was also hurt but was arrested by police.

A police spokesman said: “Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or either of the vehicles before the collision.

“In particular, we would like to speak to the driver of a silver car which was overtaken by the blue car involved in the collision on Dawes Lane prior to the collision.”

The teenagers who lost their lives will not be named until family members are told.
