Hearse crash closes A616 in South Yorkshire

A CRASH between a hearse and a car closed the A616 in South Yorkshire in both directions this afternoon.

The collision on the A616 happened close to Midhopestones at around 2.10pm today and resulted in the road being closed in both directions for over an hour between the A61 (Tankersley) and the A628 (Woodhead Pass).

Two cars, a silver Citroen and a black hearse, were involved in a collision close to the Underbank Reservoir, with both vehicles seriously damaged.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “No one is believed to have been seriously injured as a result of the collision.

“The road was closed while the incident was dealt with but has since been reopened.”
