Hedgerow awards burst into bloom

AN awards scheme has been launched to find the best maintained hedgerows in the East Riding.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England and East Riding Council have joined the HEYwoods Initiative – the trees and woodland initiative for Hull and the East Riding – to run an awards scheme that promotes the best practice of farmers, landowners and community groups who plant, manage and restore native hedgerows.

It is open to anyone involved in planting, maintaining or improving native hedgerows.

Margaret Cockbill, chairman of CPRE East Riding, said: “Our annual awards scheme celebrates the very best in hedgerow conservation work in both Hull and the East Riding.

“Since 2009, the winners of our awards have shown just how much good practice is taking place locally, ranging from the traditional to the innovative.

“We are delighted to celebrate and recognise the hard work of local landowners and we look forward to receiving a similar high standard of nominations as in previous years.”

The deadline for nominations is May 31. More details are available by calling 01482 393726.
