Doncaster-based developer Strata Homes will begin to build houses on the Boothferry Park site next year after completing the purchase of the site.

The stadium has stood vacant for nearly a decade after the Tigers moved to the KC Stadium.

Outline planning permission was granted to Lancashire-based developer Paloma Land Ltd in 2005, but the development stalled and the ground became a target for looters and arsonists.

As well as building a mix of 234 flats and two and three-storey houses, the site’s long history will be reflected in names of streets and open spaces. Strata hopes to get as many people involved as possible.

“The more we can get the community to actually put their stamp on it the better,” said managing director Andrew Weaver.

“As part of our commitment, and through our forthcoming community engagement programme, we plan to become actively involved with the Hull community over the forthcoming years. We look forward to working with the local residents and the many generations of loyal club supporters.”

Clearance and remediation work will begin in the next few weeks, and the first phase of new homes will be released for sale in the spring, with completions planned for the autumn.

The 234 homes will be built over a period of seven years on the 10-acre site. Two bed homes will start from around £99,950.

Strata says it will be seeking to use local sub-contractors wherever possible.
