Homeless charity to open new store

St George’s Crypt, the Leeds-based charity renowned for its work with the homeless and disadvantaged, is to open its second charity shop later this month.

The shop will begin trading on Saturday, August 27, in a former Co-op store on Town Street, Armley. It provides a large space of more than 5,000 sq ft, giving the Crypt a major opportunity to develop a resource in partnership with others in the community.

Crypt chief executive Chris Fields said: “We are delighted to be within sight of the opening at last. We have been receiving donated goods from hundreds of dedicated supporters for some months now and it is just great that we are nearly ready to open our doors.”

The store will provide much needed additional revenue for the Crypt, which runs a drop-in, training and accommodation centre for up to 100 people every day. It also runs two hostels for residents with a background of addiction.

Store Manager Chris Lane said: “We will realise that it’s happening when the first customers actually come through the door. We are working hard to build up partnerships in Armley, and believe this shop will do much to help that to happen.”
