Hospital to face claims by Savile victims

HOSPITAL bosses in Leeds are facing a string of compensation claims from victims of Jimmy Savile.

Lawyer Liz Dux is representing more than 50 people who suffered at the hands of serial sex attacker Savile.

They are all pursuing claims for compensation from the late BBC TV and radio star’s £4.3m estate.

But Ms Dux’s clients are also seeking damages from the organisations responsible for the premises where their abuse took place.

And yesterday she confirmed to the Yorkshire Post that “several” of the claims relate to attacks that happened at Leeds General Infirmary.

Ms Dux, from law firm Slater & Gordon, said: “All the victims that we are representing are wanting to pursue civil claims.

“Compensation is the only thing we can really do for them but that is not their particular motivation for doing this.

“It is for getting their stories out there to get them believed and to prevent it from happening again. You don’t do it for the money.

“All of them have claims against Savile’s estate and in addition the BBC and various hospitals and so on where the abuse took place.”

A report released on Friday confirmed Leeds-born Savile as one of the UK’s most prolific known sexual predators.

It contained details of more than 200 offences during a campaign of abuse spanning six decades.

At least 16 of Savile’s attacks were carried out at LGI, where he worked as a volunteer porter.

The NSPCC yesterday launched a six-week TV campaign urging people not to hesitate in reporting child sex abuse suspicions.

A poll conducted last week found that just 17 per cent of people would flag up concerns about abuse as soon as they arose.
