Hospital to share cancer knowledge

BOSSES at one of Yorkshire’s leading hospitals have signed a pioneering partnership deal with a counterpart in Jordan.

Expertise and innovations in cancer treatment developed at St James’s Hospital in Leeds will be shared with the King Hussein Cancer Centre in Jordan.

A memorandum of understanding was signed yesterday by Linda Pollard, chairman of the Leeds NHS trust, and Princess Ghida Talal of Jordan, who is chairman of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, at the World Islamic Economic Forum in London.

Mrs Pollard said: “Here in
Leeds we’ve been developing our expertise in cancer treatment and services for many decades, and
we are delighted at this opportunity to share information and expertise on our research and
pioneering treatments more widely.

The partnership has been developed by Healthcare UK, a joint venture between the Department of Health and UK Trade and Investment, as part of an initiative to give providers across the world access to the UK’s healthcare expertise.

The Leeds Cancer Centre offers specialist treatment to more than 2,500 patients a year from across the region.
