Hospital ward opens after revamp

A WARD at Doncaster Royal Infirmary has reopened after a £1m refurbishment.

Ward 18 now has new bathrooms and windows, as well as a new diagnostic treatment room and ward access control system.

The layout is designed around a “productive ward” programme, with a centrally-located large storeroom.

Hilary Bond, director of nursing and quality at the hospital trust, said: “I am really proud of what has been achieved through the refurbishment of Ward 18.

“There has been considerable investment, which will benefit not only patient care but also the working environment for our staff.

“Various teams within the hospital have worked together to design and deliver a superb development. The finished result reflects the trust’s key priorities of patient safety and reducing inefficiencies in working practices.”

The productive ward system is intended to “better patient experience”, lead to a reduced stay in hospital and reduce pressure ulcers and falls.

It also aims to “enhance the working lives” of nurses and other staff.
