Hotel development at former police HQ moves forwards

Construction work is already underway on the Hampton by Hilton Sheffield hotel, which is set to create around 55 new jobs when it opens next spring.

South Yorkshire Police sold the 1960s building at West Bar for £2.5m to Hilton earlier this year and, since then, the hotel giant has embarked on a £9m refurbishment project to transform it into a 142-room hotel. Just one objection has been received to Hilton’s licensing application, which is set to be considered by Sheffield Council next Tuesday, October 2.

A member of the public reports concern about “noise breakout from the building, particularly with regards to the positioning of rooms with live music and dancing”.

The objection says: “Although the neighbouring streets get 
very busy, particularly at rush hour, Lambert Street is currently a quiet road, particularly at 
night.

“There are very few pubs and no clubs in the immediate area.”

Hilton’s licensing application asks for, among other things, entertainment facilities, late night refreshment and supply of alcohol “for the benefit of residents and their bona fide guests on a 24-hour basis”.
