House builder steps forward to help save youth theatre

BOSSES at a housing company which is currently building some of Rotherham’s first new council homes in 30 years have donated money to keep a local children’s theatre group treading the boards.

Kimberworth Park Youth Theatre group received £1,500 from Bramall Construction to run a drama course for children aged six to 17.

Bramall Construction has recently carried out improvements on nearly 12,000 council houses in Rotherham and is part of the Keepmoat Foundation community investment programme.

Cash donated by the firm was used to save the theatre group from shutting down and specifically funded a series of sessions on the theme of memories.

Youth theatre leader Stacey Sampson said: “This donation meant we could keep sessions running. We sometimes have to stop when there is a funding gap.

“The cash meant we could keep a course going which in turn means we could keep our links up within the community. The money was also used to give them professional skills as they designed the set.”

Neil Robertson from Bramall Construction, added: “We have been working to improve homes in Rotherham and are equally keen to make improvements in the community too.

“We hope members of the group enjoyed the drama classes and who knows, the donation may have helped to make the stars of tomorrow’s stage and screen.”

Bramall Construction is currently building eight new eco-friendly family-sized homes in Maltby, which are among Rotherham’s first new council houses in three decades.
