Howzat for learning?

Yorkshire batsman Anthony McGrath and former wicketkeeper Richard Blakey went back to school yesterday – to help mark National Cricket Day.

They joined pupils at Greenside Primary School in Pudsey in an initiative that uses the sport as a teaching tool.

Chance to Shine is a grass roots development programme run by the Cricket Foundation charity that helps link cricket clubs with local state schools. Their target is to reach two million children in a third of state schools by 2015.

Last year, in Yorkshire alone almost 100,000 boys and girls benefited from the scheme.

Across the country, nearly 4,000 schools were involved in yesterday’s coaching classes and matches, including about 300 in Yorkshire.
