Huddersfield Town wait on Jonathan Hogg scan while 'fresh' Elias Kachunga faces competition

Elias Kachunga comes back into contention for the Championship home game after being rested in midweek, but those that faced Bristol City on Tuesday made it hard for him with the quality of their performance.

Hogg was taken off in the first half after taking a bit of a battering in the 2-1 win.

“Hoggy has had a scan and we are awaiting results,” explained manager Danny Cowley. “It looks like the lateral side of his knee and he’s a bit sore.

“You never say never but the turnaround would be quick. Until we know the severity we can’t say (if he will be available at the weekend).”

Kachunga was rested in midweek, allowing Chris Willock to make his first Terriers start, and he marked the occasion with a goal.

Cowley hinted in midweek that Emile Smith Rowe's gametime had been managed with this set of back-to-back home games in mind, but Willock could find he is the next to be put in cotton wool.

Cowley said of Kachunga: “He has played a lot of games and minutes and, with attacking players, you can blunt them.

“There has not been much competition on the right. Hopefully Kacha is back and Collin Quaner also.

“Kacha is a good kid, diligent, loves the club and wants to do well for himself and the team. He is a selfless boy and he understood the situation and circumstances. He has had the chance to freshen up.”

Willock, on loan from Benfica, is eager to play games having spent the first half of the campaign on loan at West Bromwich Albion without making a senior appearance.

“He did well,” said Cowley. “He doesn’t force things and play down dead ends.

“He allows us to build and, in the final third, he gives us that pass which creates extra space and, obviously, he scored an excellent goal. Now we want more. I am a greedy man.”

That greediness also extends to hoping Arsenal agree to send Smith Rowe back for another season-long loan in 2020-21 after the instant impact the No 10 has made since signing in January.

Goalkeeper Kamil Grabara is back in training after a serious head injury last month, but is not yet ready to provide competition to Jonas Lossl.

“Kamil Grabara has trained regularly but he needs a game to then be available for first-team selection,” explained Cowley.

“He was due to play against Bradford last Tuesday but it was called off. There is a game coming up now next Tuesday.”
