Illegal road users face crackdown by police

POLICE are cracking down on car fraud offences after a man produced what officers believe to be a homemade insurance certificate

The stop was made in the Barkerend area of Bradford in the first of a series of police operations focusing on uninsured drivers and the illegal use of the roads.

Going under the name Op Northolt, it saw 10 vehicles seized for being uninsured and another was seized for having no driving license.

A further vehicle was seized after it was suspected of being used in crime.

Inspector Dorian James said: “By working closely together (with other agencies) we have made a significant impact on those who are using the roads illegally and delivered a clear message to other errant drivers.

“Throughout the operation we issued a number of fixed penalty notices for a variety of offences from speeding to using mobile phones at the wheel. During one of our stops, a man was arrested for an outstanding court fine and our partners also stopped and dealt with the occupants of several other vehicles on a range of matters. This is only the first in a series of specific action days across Bradford during the coming months, focused solely on road traffic offences.

“We do, however; continue to undertake this work as part of our daily business and I can assure other drivers considering using the areas road illegally that we will be right behind them.”

“Whilst motor trade policies typically provide cover for any vehicle, this cover only exists in specific circumstances. All motor trade policy holders are reminded to inform their insurance company of the details of all vehicles they hold.

“If we find anyone driving a vehicle outside the agreed terms of use, we will seize that vehicle and it will only be returned when we are happy that there is insurance in place that meets the legal requirements of the Road Traffic Act.”
