Improving child centre ‘will be priority’

CHILDREN’S services chiefs yesterday promised to take action to improve a children’s centre as a “matter of priority” after inspectors condemned its provision for families as inadequate across the board.

Education watchdog Ofsted, released a report on Wednesday which said Hillsborough Children’s Centre in Sheffield cataloguing a series of problems, including an unsafe entry gate and play area.

Dr Sonia Sharp, Sheffield Council’s director of children’s services said: “Clearly this is a highly critical report. We accept more things need to improve at the centre and we are looking at this as a matter of priority.

“However, what we would say is that families are very well provided for in the Hillsborough area and so their needs are being met through other streams. Since the inspection we have made a number of significant changes.”
