“Inadequate” rating for service

The service provided by Unique Care Providers, of Huddersfield, was deemed “inadequate” after a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

Unique Care Providers supports people in their own homes and residents of Bradley Court retirement living complex at Bradley, Huddersfield. Inspectors found the agency was failing to provide care which was safe, effective, responsive or well led; that improvements required as a result of a previous inspection had not been made; and they identified further concerns. The report stated: “People’s safety was being compromised. We found two incidents of potential abuse which had not been reported to the local authority. We also found evidence that people’s medicines were not being managed safely.”

Debbie Westhead, of the CQC, said: “Although we learned of caring interactions between staff and people using the service, failure to report incidents is a major concern.”

A spokesman for Kirklees Council, which commissions services from Unique, said the council has been working closely with the agency to address the issues they are experiencing.
