India veto use of DRS for series in England

The Board of Control of Cricket in India has refused to use the Decision Review System for the upcoming tour of England this summer.

The boards of both countries must agree to use the technology in order for its use to be implemented.

The BCCI has blocked its use despite the system having been repeatedly supported by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

“The England team are comfortable with the use of DRS, but the BCCI have advised us that they won’t be willing to sanction its use during the Test and one-day series,” said an ECB spokesman.

“Both boards have to agree to the technology being in place for it to happen, so it doesn’t look as though it will be used this summer.”

The system has been heavily criticised by the senior Indian players, including captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Despite the ICC having recommended the technology to be incorporated in all forms of the game, the BCCI appear to be taking a stand on the issue.

“Our official position on DRS remains unchanged,” commented an Indian board official.

“To implement DRS you need the agreement between the two participating nations. Now, with the BCCI not supporting DRS, the ECB cannot force it on us.”
