Indian VIP to open new Hindu centre

THE Deputy Indian High Commissioner will open Hull’s first Hindu Cultural Centre on Sunday.

The centre, in Park Street, which features a temple, hall and function rooms, will be opened by Rajesh Prasad at 3pm.

It will be the first dedicated place of worship for the city’s Hindu community, which has been meeting every Sunday at Anlaby Village Hall and has celebrated its major festivals at a range of venues, although it is likely that Diwali will continue to be held at Longcroft School in Beverley because of its size.

The building in Park Street was bought two years ago by the 115 members of the Hull and East Riding Hindu Cultural Association.
