Innovative couple write new chapter for injured woman

For the last eight years Surbhi, 36, from Kirkstall, Leeds, has been unable to write with her right arm.

Creative Leeds couple Brian and Agnes Wallwork have come up with some solutions to help Surbhi regain her independence.

The couple, who live in Cookridge, made a special pen to help the management consultant write again as well as a special support crutch, which is used to rest her arm on.

Mr Wallwork, 79, and his wife, 71, have spent the last decade creating inventions for charity Remap which help to transform the lives of disabled residents across Yorkshire.

Surbhi said: “It will make so much of a difference and the physiotherapist has already said that my shoulder looks so much better.

“I can hold a hairdryer now.

“I was unable to write with my right hand and that was so frustrating. After nearly seven years I still can’t write very fast with my left hand so I always wanted to regain that.”

She added: “I’m so excited and it’s made a massive difference.

“I’m really grateful to both of them and I just hope a lot of people who are like me get to know more about this fantastic organisation.”

Remap, which is a charity made up of a dedicated craftsmen and engineers – many retired – who make free one-off aids for people with disabilities.

The Wallworks’ creations for Surbhi will be the charity’s 1,000th case since it started.
