Insight into stately home’s history

VISITORS can gain an insight in to the life and times of an East Yorkshire stately home through history talks taking place throughout the summer.

Head Guide Pauline Waslin will be taking people on a journey through the 400 years of Burton Agnes Hall, in the village of Burton Agnes, near Driffield, which is the home of the Cunliffe-Lister family. The Elizabethan property, which was built between 1598 and 1610 by Sir Henry Griffith, has been described as “the perfect English house” by Simon Jenkins, the author of “England’s Thousand Best Houses.”

The talks will look at how domestic life at the Hall has evolved over the last 400 years and reveal the truth about its ghost.

Pauline will share her passion for history, gained through her degree in Country House Studies and employment at the Hall. She said: “The Hall’s history is so varied and interesting, I think visitors will be surprised how much there is to learn.”

The talks take place on May 26, June 30, July 28, and August 25 starting at 2pm. Booking is not necessary. Entry to the talks is included in the Hall admission price.
