Inspiring success

IT will take far more than Tory chairman Sayeeda Warsi’s upbeat words on the opposite page to lift Yorkshire out of the economic mire. It requires her government to have the foresight to put in place a strategy that inspires a new generation of wealth-creators to emerge, and which is more effective than the Regional Growth Fund that Ed Miliband criticised yesterday.

As such, this newspaper is proud to support the Local Business Accelerators Campaign, a new initiative that will see three of Yorkshire’s must successful business leaders act as mentors to a group of talented young entrepreneurs.

Ask any successful industrialist about their success – and they will, invariably, name an individual who inspired them on the path to greatness.

Now the onus is on today’s business leaders to share some of the secrets of their success. And, while some may say that the responsibility rests solely with the young, they should remember this – small businesses underpin the economy and Britain will only prosper when more people find work in the long months and years ahead.
