Insurance firm brings jobs boost for city

A new company is being launched in Bradford as part of a multi-million pound scheme to stimulate investment in the city.

Insurance company Pegasus, based in Cheapside, is creating 17 jobs in the city centre as a result of the City Centre Growth Zone funding.

The zone is part of a £35m scheme funded by Bradford Council and the Government’s Regional Growth Fund.

Because the company was successful in its application to the scheme, it will receive a rebate against its business rates for the next three years.

Bradford council leader Councillor David Green said: “It is excellent news that Pegasus is bringing a further 17 jobs into the city and the company has the potential to grow and provide further valuable employment.”

As part of the scheme, Bradford Council’s business, investment and enterprise team is working with new and existing companies to help them with their business expansion plans and the officers have helped guide Pegasus through the process of applying for the business rates rebate.

The company was also offered advice on human resources, IT and websites.

Pegasus director Naeem Sheikh said: “We are delighted to launch our new company in Bradford’s city centre. The Growth Zone team have been excellent. They are real team players and genuine people.

“Pegasus Motor Insurance is creating new jobs in a niche market and the support we have received has been very reassuring.”

The new company is due to be launched at Bradford’s Midland Hotel today.

It will provide a product to the motor insurance market – a telematic system that monitors drivers’ behaviour and which may result in reduced costs for careful drivers.
