Interview pledge to cadbury staff

Supermarket giant Tesco yesterday offered the guarantee of an interview to Cadbury workers set to lose their jobs when their factory closes.

United States food giant Kraft angered workers this week when it confirmed the closure of the Somerdale plant near Bristol, despite an earlier pledge to keep it open.

Tesco said anyone who loses their job as a result of the closure will be guaranteed a job interview for a new store opening nearby, which is set to create 200 jobs. Construction work on the new supermarket has started and it is due to open later this year.

The Cadbury plant is due to close next year, with the loss of 400 jobs and work transferred to Poland. Kraft said the previous Cadbury regime's plans to close the site were too far down the line to be overturned.
