Investigation begins after grenade found in West Yorkshire village
A police investigation has begun after a grenade was found in a West Yorkshire village this afternoon.
Officers were called to Carr Top Lane in Golcar, near Huddersfield, shortly before 5pm.
A spokeswoman said initial enquiries had suggested it was a smoke grenade but detective from Kirklees CID were still working at the scene.
Smoke grenades are typically used by the military as a signaling device, to mark a target or landing zone, or as a screening device for unit movements.
