IT IS a long way from Nick Clegg's Sheffield Hallam constituency to Las Vegas, but the former deputy PM appears to have made the transatlantic crossing without even realising it.

His picture has been recognised as the face of a maintenance project at the airport which serves the US gambling capital.

A traveller tweeted an airport poster apologising for inconvenience during upgrade work, which appears to be of Mr Clegg talking to an unnamed woman,

The message, from Garth Jennings to Nevada’s McCarran International Airport, reads: “Are you aware you’ve used Nick Clegg on your maintenance posters?”

Press officials at Mr Clegg’s Liberal Democrat party were quick to respond, with the one-word question: “Royalties?”

It is not the first time an image of a British politician has been used as a “library picture” by US media.

The TV network NBC used a shot of former Labour leader Ed Miliband blowing his nose as a generic image to illustrate the risk of flu.

The picture was taken at the 2011 Labour conference and was reported to have been supplied by the international picture agency Getty as a stock image.
