Israeli resort targeted in rocket attacks

The Israeli resort of Eilat was targeted by a string of rockets yesterday but none hit its target.

Another attack in neighbouring Jordan, however, injured five people.

It was the second such attack this year, following a similar volley in April that Israeli authorities say was fired from Egypt's Sinai peninsula.

A series of explosions were heard early in the narrow coast of the Red Sea where Eilat and the Jordanian city of Aqaba are located side by side, both popular tourist destinations.

Police confirmed the blasts were caused by rockets but said no one was injured in Eilat.

Eilat Mayor Meir Itzhak Halevi said there was no sign any of the rocket strike inside the city limits.

The one in Aqaba exploded on a main street in front of the Intercontinental Hotel wounding five people, one critically.

Two of the injured were taxi drivers and one of their cars was destroyed.
