It’s Twist again as Dickensian market staff set out their stall

MUSEUM workers whose festive fun was ruined by last year’s heavy snow were yesterday praying for better weather as they put the finishing touches to their annual Victorian Christmas market.

Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield will give the event its traditional Dickensian theme and actors who will greet visitors in the guise of characters from Oliver Twist are in rehearsal.

Nikki Connelly, the events and marketing officer at Kelham Island, said: “The snow thwarted us last year and everyone was devastated that we couldn’t hold the Christmas market.

“This year we have gone all out to make up for last year’s disappointment. Kelham Island is such a magical place and the Victorian Christmas market has been a staple part of that for 20 years.

“It attracts thousands of visitors who browse and enjoy traditional Christmas entertainment. This year’s event will have lots to do for all the family and there will be some amazing products on sale.”

Organisers said they were expecting to welcome 12,000 visitors for the two-day extravaganza on Saturday and Sunday December 3 and 4.

Admission to the event will cost £5 for adult, with accompanied children free.
