Jewellery stolen by masked raiders

Masked raiders smashed their way into a Harrogate jewellers and threatened terrified staff with a sledgehammer before escaping with thousands of pounds’ worth of jewellery.

At about 10.30am yesterday, two men dressed in black and wearing masks or balaclavas got out of a silver Vauxhall Astra parked opposite Fattorini’s jewellery store in Parliament Street.

After forcing the door off its hinges with the sledgehammer, they threatened staff before stealing several pieces of expensive jewellery. The two were then driven away by a third man.

Going along Parliament Street, the Astra cut across the paths of several other cars and detectives are appealing for the drivers to come forward. They are also urging anyone who saw the Astra arrive in Valley Road to contact Harrogate CID on 101.
