Jimmy Savile leaves £3.6m to charity

SIR Jimmy Savile left most of his £4.3 million personal fortune to charity, it emerged today.

The Leeds-based star, who died in October two days before his 85th birthday, leaves around £3.6m to charity.

His will names his niece and nephew, who organised his three-day funeral, and four close friends, to benefit from the annual interest of a £600,000 trust fund, which will now be split six ways.

His niece Amanda McKenna, 49, of Kirkstall, Leeds, also received Sir Jimmy’s treasured picture of The Beatles.

She said: “I am honoured he has left me a trust fund and The Beatles picture, which meant so much to him, but he knew I loved it.”

The Jimmy Savile Charitable Trust, which already has a fortune of £3.5m, will benefit from the bequest, increasing it to £7.1m.

His will, written in 2006, also contains a bequest of his signature gold wedding rings, which he inherited from his parents, to his nephew Roger Foster, 67, a retired deputy head from Goole,

Mr Foster said: “I am very pleased that the bulk of Jimmy’s fortune will go to his charities.

“Jimmy’s lasting legacy will be the continuation of the good work he has been doing. I was aware of my getting my grandparents’ wedding rings as Jimmy had lost them and I found them.”

Sir Jimmy also left £1,000 each to another 18 people. His possessions, including his tracksuits, bikes and furniture, will be auctioned off for charity later this year.
