Jubilee on TV: when to tune in to catch the best of the festivities

Most of the official festivities will be televised and a number of special programmes have been put together to celebrate the Queen’s 60-year reign.

BBC One’s coverage begins with a special edition of Songs of Praise at 12.30pm tomorrow, followed by the Thames Diamond Jubilee pageant, a flotilla of more than 1,000 vessels from Battersea to Tower Bridge, at 1.30pm.

Meanwhile, ITV1 will be showing All the Queen’s Horses, another spectacular pageant set in the grounds of Windsor Castle, featuring horses and performers from all over the world. Coverage will also include live music from a line-up of global stars, plus rare archive footage of the Queen during her reign.

Back on BBC One at 7.30pm, Gary Barlow: On Her Majesty’s Service follows the Take That star’s mission to record a Jubilee song for the Queen, featuring contributions by musicians from around the Commonwealth. A National Treasures Jubilee special will follow at 12.50am, presented from Westminster Abbey.

On Monday, a personal tribute by the Prince of Wales will be shown again on BBC One at 1.45pm. The repeat of last night’s broadcast features previously-unseen photos and films from Her Majesty’s private collection, many of them shot by the Queen.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace will be screened live on BBC One from 7.30pm.

Stars on the bill include Gary Barlow, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Kylie Minogue. Highlights will be shown at 3.45pm on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s festivities include a thanksgiving service attended by the Royals at St Paul’s Cathedral, and a carriage procession from Westminster to Buckingham Palace, before a balcony appearance and fly-past.

ITV1’s coverage begins at 8.30am, with live reports until 4pm. On BBC One, coverage of the thanksgiving service begins at 9.15am, and the carriage procession and balcony appearance will be broadcast from 1.30pm.
