Junction trees to be removed after tragedy

Bradford Council is to remove five trees in Saltaire following the death of a motorcyclist at the World Heritage Site.

The motorcyclist died in a collision with a car at the junction of Saltaire Road and Victoria Road earlier this year.

Officials said the junction has been the scene of several road traffic incidents within the past few years, owing to people having overshot the junction because the trees obscure the spaces between the buildings, giving the illusion that Victoria Road is one continuous length.

Improvements have already been made including repositioning a section of the guard rail and moving and integrating several signs to reduce clutter and improve the line of sight at the junction. Once the trees have been removed further improvements will be made.
