Kazoo record bid creates a buzz

Comedian Miranda Hart and newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy are among stars aiming for a kazoo world record.

They will be part of a 50-strong celebrity band at the BBC Radio 3 Red Nose Show event at London's Royal Albert Hall in March.

The stars – who also include comic Jenny Eclair, actor Stephen Mangan and presenter Richard Bacon – will take part in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest kazoo ensemble.

Members of the audience will be encouraged to take part in the event at the venue on March 14 and will be accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra, as well as the group Masters of the Kazooniverse performing the Dambusters March and Ride of the Valkyries.

The aim is to beat the standing record of 3,861 players set in Sydney, Australia, in 2009.

Hart said: "It's going to be a real spectacle. I just need to work out what a kazoo actually is, and then work out how to play it."

The event also features performances by violinist Nicola Benedetti, cellist Julian Lloyd Webber, and comedians Tim Vine and Marcus Brigstocke.
