The rider was driving a red, old-style Moto Guzzi motorcyle on the A65 near Clapham in the Craven district when it collided with a blue Peugeot 206 that was heading in the opposite direction, towards Lancashire.

The motorcyclist, from Keighley, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed, but police are not in a position to release his name at this time.

The driver of the Peugeot, a 43-year-old woman also from Keighley, and her nine-year-old daughter who was in the front passenger seat, were taken to Airedale General Hospital by ambulance. Their injuries are not believed to be serious, but they were left badly shaken by the incident.

The section of road was closed for five hours while a full collision investigation was carried out at the scene and to allow for the vehicles to be recovered.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses to come forward or anyone who recalls seeing either the car or the motorcycle prior to the collision. The rider was wearing a black motorcycle suit and a distinctive white helmet with red and green striped from the Italian flag.
