Ken Russell dies at 84

Tributes were paid yesterday to the unique talent of maverick British film director Ken Russell following his death aged 84. He first gained a reputation through the BBC arts series Monitor and later went on to direct often controversial films including of Women in Love and The Devils. Glenda Jackson, who was awarded a best actress Oscar for Women in Love, said he had an “incredible visual genius” and had made an international contribution to cinema.
