Kercher killer tries fresh appeal

ONE of the killers of Leeds student Meredith Kercher has appealed against his conviction again.

Rudy Guede was found guilty in a fast-track trial of sexual assault and murdering Miss Kercher at her shared house in Perugia, Italy in 2007.

A later trial also convicted Miss Kercher's house-mate American student Amanda Knox and Knox's former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito. Knox was jailed for 26 years; Sollecito, 25.

Guede, from the Ivory Coast, initially appealed in December but the court upheld the original conviction and sentenced him to 16 years in prison.

Guede's lawyer Nicodemo Gentile said that no date for the new appeal before the Court of Cassation had been set.

Mr Gentile said Guede wanted to prove his innocence. He has admitted being in the house on the night of the murder but denied killing Miss Kercher, a student at the University of Leeds, from Coulsdon, Surrey.
