Killer sports new look in court

Amanda Knox appeared in court sporting a boyish new look yesterday as she faced accusations of slandering Italian police while on trial for the murder of Leeds student Meredith Kercher.

Knox claimed she was hit twice by a police officer while she was being interrogated in Perugia.

Last December, the 22-year-old was found guilty of killing Miss Kercher with her Italian former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito.

Prosecutors said that what began as an extreme sex game ended with Sollecito holding down the student while Knox cut her throat with a six-inch kitchen knife.

The American student, known as Foxy Knoxy, had done away with the long locks that helped make her looks the focus of much attention at her trial

The brief preliminary hearing in Perugia, held behind closed doors, was largely devoted to technicalities and quickly adjourned.

Miss Kercher, 21, from Surrey, was found dead in November 2007 in the house she shared with Knox and others during a year studying abroad.
