Landmark launch for Viking festival

FEARSOME Norse warriors lit up Clifford’s Tower in York to mark the start of this year’s Jorvik Viking Festival.

The landmark was the backdrop for a specially commissioned animation by York Archaeological Trust to celebrate the launch of the 27th annual festival – which takes place from tomorrow until February 19. More than 40,000 people from across the globe are expected to attend the festival, which will feature authentic combat displays and performances, renowned children’s authors, award-winning musicians, ancient tales and traditional crafts.
