Landslip hits some local services on railway line

A LANDSLIP has temporarily stopped trains running on part of a heritage railway in North Yorkshire.

The slip, close to the site of a problem which halted trains on the Wensleydale Railway in 2012 between Leeming Bar and Finghall, has occurred on an embankment.

General manager Nigel Park said: “We are used to dealing with maintenance issues on infrastructure which is over 150 years old, and unfortunately this sort of problem is relatively commonplace on railways.

“The work we did in the area earlier this year has ensured that the track remains in place and is stable but because the recent slip is quite close we have closed that section of the line as a safety precaution.

Trains are still running between Finghall Lane, Leyburn and Redmire at weekends as planned, and our Santa Specials from Leeming Bar are unaffected.”

It is expected the line with be fully open again by February.
