Leaflet campaign aims to find attacker

POLICE have been delivering hundreds of leaflets to householders after drawing a blank so far in their hunt for a rapist who attacked a woman in Hull.

The 43-year-old victim was walking along an alleyway between Coltman Street and Saner Street in the early hours of Sunday, March 28, after a night out when she was approached from behind.

Her upper arm was bruised in the attack, which happened between 12.10am and 12.45am.

The victim has been unable to give police a description of the attacker and the investigation has proved awkward for officers because of the time of night and the location of the assault.

Officers from the Riverside Neighbourhood Policing Team were out yesterday evening to post 500 letters in the Coltman Street and Saner Street areas of Hull as part of the investigation.

In spite of door-to-door inquiries, a search of closed circuit TV footage and forensic investigations, officers are still trying to identify the attacker.

A spokesman for Humberside Police said: "We are appealing for the public's help with this very serious incident.

"We are delivering leaflets to try to find people who may not have yet spoken to police.

"We hope the leaflets act as an aide memoir to people who may not have realised that something small is actually significant to the inquiry."

He added: "The victim has been left very traumatised by the experience and has been supported by Humberside Police staff.

"Fortunately, incidents of this nature are very rare."
