Lecture highlights Church and media

A religious correspondent will speak about the often fractious relationship between the Church and the media when she gives a lecture at Ripon Cathedral.

Ruth Gledhill, who works for The Times, will deliver the St Wilfrid lecture at the cathedral next week when she will analyse the sometimes strained relations between journalists and the clergy.

Ms Gledhill, 51, the daughter of a vicar, has been working at The Times since 1987 and became its religious correspondent two years later.

She also writes an online blog, Articles of Faith, and teaches part-time as a tutor to journalism students at London's City University.

The Dean of Ripon, Keith Jukes, said: "I have known Ruth Gledhill for over 13 years and I know that she will present this lecture

with her usual directness and insight."

Ms Gledhill's lecture, called Don't Shoot Me, I'm Just the Messenger - Media, Church, State and Politics, will start at 7pm on Thursday next week and while entry is free, tickets need to be booked from the cathedral's office on 01765 603462.
