Lecturers in jobs strike threat

A lecturers' union held a protest yesterday and is balloting for strike action in a jobs dispute at a Yorkshire college.

The University and College Union says it is taking the action after Bradford College management refused to rule out compulsory redundancies as part of a cost-cutting plan.

The union said the college planned 26 redundancies and lecturers in metallurgy, music technology, counselling, English, business and management, hair and beauty and engineering have been placed in "redundancy pools".

A protest was held yesterday at the college's Bolton Royd Centre in Manningham Lane, Bradford.

No one from the college was available for comment.
