A DREAM came true for hundreds of pupils yesterday when a member of one of the world’s most acclaimed bands turned up at their school.

Children of Our Lady’s RC School Primary School in Acomb, York, cheered as Drifter Michael Williams strolled in.

The school has been chosen to perform on stage with the Drifters during their concert at the Grand Opera House York on July 3.

The group works within local communities – offering schools a chance of a lifetime for their choir to perform live on stage for a one-off song.

Five decades after the Drifters first soared up the UK charts with classic hits such as Up On The Roof, the group still remain in the Top 20 album lists this week with the greatest hits release of the same name, demonstrating their enduring appeal.

The Drifters will be performing at the Grand Opera House York on July 3 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £25 and are available from box office on 0844 871 3024 or online at www.grandoperahouseyork.org.uk

So what is the secret behind one of the longest serving and biggest selling groups of all time?
