Library opening hours under review

CALDERDALE Council is carrying out a review of local library opening hours.

The authority says opening times are being looked at to make best use of the current resources available to run its 22 libraries and two mobile libraries.

It is carrying out a review of the opening hours of libraries across the Calderdale area and wants to know what people's priorities are as part of this process.

A questionnaire will be available to fill in from Wednesday until July 5 at libraries, Customer First offices, leisure centres and other venues. The form will also be on line at www.calderdale.gov.uk/

The questionnaire will also be asking why people use their local library, whether it is to borrow books, music or films, carry out family history research, use the internet or study. It will also look at reasons why people don't go to their local library, and whether different opening times would encourage them to pay a visit.

The council's cabinet member for safer and stronger communities, David O'Neill, said yesterday: "We are asking people to take part in the survey to help us improve our excellent and extensive library service."
