Library shows off literary pride

The copy of Shirley will be the centrepiece of the exhibition, which looks at how the stunning Yorkshire landscape has been inspiration for some of the country’s most famous writers. Writing Britain is now on show at the library off The Headrow and includes writing, imagery and poetical film inspired by Yorkshire.

Development librarian Rose Gibson, above, helped hang some of the items from the Leeds library collections that have been boosted by works on loan from the British Library, including the Brontë first edition.

The display has been brought together by Leeds City Council’s library and information service and the British Library, following on from the London exhibition Writing Britain: Wastelands to Wonderlands.

As part of the Leeds exhibition, a group of young people created lyrical rhymes and a spoken word film through the Studio 12 creative workshop in the library.

The Writing Britain exhibition runs in Leeds Central Library until January 30.
