Lock keeper’s lodge offers ‘idyllic setting’ for bidders

A FORMER lock keeper’s bungalow which was once the property of British Waterways is set to go under the hammer later this month, with auctioneers predicting interest from the boating fraternity.

The property, described by estate agents as a “lodge on the banks of the River Don”, is one of more than 20 properties in the catalogue for the sale which will take place next Tuesday.

Lucy Crapper, senior auctioneer at Sheffield-based Blundells’ auction house said the bungalow enjoyed an enviable setting alongside the canal waterways in Long Sandall, Doncaster.

Ms Crapper said the two-storey property sits in a good sized plot with lawned gardens to all sides. A driveway provides off-road parking and gated access leading directly to the canal area and locks.

The house also has a lounge, breakfast kitchen, dining room and bathroom, but the sellers admit the bungalow will require “some repair and refurbishment work”.

Ms Crapper said the property was expected to attract interest at auction because of its “unusual setting and potential”, as well as its easy access to motorway networks, schools and other local amenities.

She added: “This is a unique opportunity to purchase a building full of potential in a really enviable setting. The property is likely to interest not only the residential buyer wanting an idyllic setting for a home, but also a canal boat owner wanting a more permanent residence which incorporates access to their boat or barge.”

The auction, at Sheffield’s Doubletree Hotel will begin 2pm, with doors opening at 1pm.
