London 'can learnfrom mistakes'

Former Olympic and Commonwealth champion Jonathan Edwards believes the London 2012 Olympics organising committee can learn from the mistakes of their Delhi counterparts.

Preparations for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games have descended into chaos amid security, safety and health concerns.

Some of the venues are yet to be completed with the opening ceremony just 10 days away, and retired triple-jumper Edwards, who was in York yesterday promoting the role of the London organising committee, is confident the uncertainty will not be repeated in two years.

Edwards said: “What we’ve learned as an organising committee is that you should give yourself plenty of leeway when constructing the venues, to allow yourself to be ready in time.

“And fortunately London is ahead of schedule.”
